Step Up to Success:

Collaborative Professional Development for Early Childhood Carers/Therapists

For those working in, or towards, a career in Early Childhood Education, Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy.

Join us for a unique collabourative professional development 5 part series on functional everyday skills and strategies to support children in the preschool, home, (early) school and therapy setting.

As professionals we typically engage in our own disciplines specific professional development, but rarely do we get the chance to sit alongside others involved in our young students broader care and learn from and with them!

Focused on walking away with immediately useful knowledge and strategies to use across preschoolers many environments, this 5 part series will be like no other discipline specific training. Instead it is focused on considering the child within the ‘bigger picture’ of all the environments to which they are exposed, and how strategies from one environment can be just a usefully applied in another.

Come along to listen and/or contribute to the discussion (and questions) whilst siting in the preschool environment allow more knowledge and strategies consolidation. Its like living a case study – bring your case studies (students in mind) to share with and learn from the group.

All events will begin follow the 360 degrees format of:

  • A brief introduction by an experienced paediatric Speech or Occupational Therapist to set the scene of the focus topic and to speak about the underlying foundation skills (* that are not always established in children) and to discuss common presentation so we have a shared understanding of the children we are talking about.
  • Examine specific examples of preschool support strategies
  • How the examples might modify as the child transitions to junior primary school
  • Hear about how preschool strategies can be modified for the home environment is also undertake to ensure as full 360 degree view of the child.
